Absolut Art is proud to offer a new collection of prints curated by renowned musicians Rapsody and Moses Sumney, with creative consultant and Founder of Humbleriot, Ant Demby. In this curation, five artists re-imagine whitewashed album covers. For much of the twentieth century, record company executives would place images of white people on album covers of new releases by Artists of Color, arguing that the practice would sell more records.

In this reimagined artwork, I was inspired by the album cover and song “He’s a Rebel” by The Crystals. Merging decades, I took the title of a song released in 1962 and paired with styling inspired by the color and rawness of the ’90s and the modern era. This piece includes photography, graphic design, and hand-drawn details.

Additional Poster Option

When submitting the work, we were asked to create two poster options. Below was my other option. I love this version because it plays with all of my favorite design elements: layering, texture, and color blocking.
